Pet Food Pantry: Keeping Pets and Families Together
Our Pet Food Pantry provides free, supplemental cat and dog food to individuals facing economic hardships, ensuring pets stay with their families during tough times. This program is a lifeline for those in need, offering short-term emergency support or long-term assistance for individuals who are unemployed, disabled, or receiving government aid.
How to Access the Pet Food Pantry
Eligibility: Provide proof of income (e.g., Social Security award letters, unemployment documentation, disability letter, or medical cards) and a photo ID.

Contact us at chaadopt@yahoo.com or 715-682-9744 to learn more or check availability.
Spay/Neuter Assistance: A Healthier Future for Pets
Approximately 1 million shelter animals are euthanized each year due to overpopulation. Spaying or neutering your pet is a vital step in reducing this homeless animal population, freeing up homes for those already waiting in shelters like our Hopeful Hearts.
Our Spay and Neuter Assistance Program is dedicated to easing the financial burden of this essential pet healthcare, ensuring your pet and community animals thrive. We work with Northstar Veterinary Clinic in Drummond and Purple Cat Veterinary Clinic in Hayward to provide high-quality spay and neuter services for your animals.
Why Spay/Neuter?
Improve your pet’s behavior and longevity.
Reduce the population of homeless pets.
Prevent unwanted litters that are costly and add strain on shelters.
Who Qualifies?
- Pet Age: Pets can be spayed or neutered as early as 3 months.
- Household Income: If your household income is under $40,000 annually, we can assist with spay/neuter costs.
- Female Dog Exception: We try to help spay any unaltered female dogs, regardless of income, as space allows.
Contact us at chaadopt@yahoo.com or 715-682-9744 to learn more or check availability.

Owner Surrender: A Compassionate Solution
We understand that life circumstances can make it challenging to keep your beloved pet. If you must rehome your cat or dog, we are here to help. However, since space in our shelter is limited, we encourage exploring all options before surrendering your pet.
Before Surrendering
Try to Rehome: Post ads in local newspapers, create posters with a color photo for public places, or ask friends and family if they can care for your pet.
CHA-adopted Pets: If you adopted your pet from our shelter, you must contact us before rehoming to ensure compliance with our adoption agreement.
Surrender Process
Reach Out: Contact us at chaadopt@yahoo.com or 715-682-9744 to discuss surrendering your pet.
**Due to limited space, we may not be able to take your pet immediately.**
Surrender Fee: A fee may apply to offset care and medical costs (e.g., spay/neuter, vaccinations, dental care), which can exceed hundreds of dollars to prepare your pet for adoption.
Alternative Options: If you can’t contribute to these costs, call us to explore other solutions, such as temporary fostering or other community resources.
Our Commitment
We’ll do our best to find a new home for your pet, turning a difficult decision into a hopeful one for both you and your animal. Your cooperation helps us continue our mission to rescue and adopt out pets with love.
