Barn Cat Program
Find the Perfect Barn Buddy
We strive to find loving homes for every cat in our care. Social cats and those who are shy but adaptable enter our adoption program to find patient, caring families.
However, some cats are deeply unsocialized, avoid human interaction, and become stressed in confined spaces. These independent felines are our Barn Cats, also known as working cats.
Barn Cats at Work
Barn cats thrive in outdoor environments such as barns, stables, sheds, or warehouses, where they expertly manage rodent populations with their natural hunting skills.
In return for their pest control services, you commit to providing these independent felines with food, a safe shelter, and ongoing care. It’s a win-win: a happy, purposeful cat and a rodent-free property!
What We Provide
Every Barn Cat adopted through our Barn Cat Program comes with:
- Spay/Neuter Surgery: Ensuring they’re ready for their new home.
- Ear-tipping: A small, humane marker to identify them as fixed and vaccinated.
- Vaccinations: Keeping them healthy and protected.
- Acclimation Guide: Detailed instructions to help your Barn Cat settle into their new environment.
How It Works
Our Barn Cat Program matches feral or semi-feral cats with adopters looking for working cats. Here’s how it works:
- Step 1—Submit an Application: Fill out the Barn Cat Application (available at the bottom of this page) if you want to adopt a Barn Cat within a year. You don’t need to have a specific cat in mind to apply.
- Step 2—First-come, First-served: When a Barn Cat becomes available, we contact applicants in the order in which applications were received. If you pass on a cat, your application stays active.
- Step 3—Adoption Fee: The adoption fee is $25, though some cats may have sponsored fees, making them free to approved homes.
- Step 4—Application Term: Your Barn Cat application remains active and on file for one year. Contact us to withdraw your application if you no longer need a Barn Cat. To continue your interest after one year, resubmit an updated application to stay in our program.
Note: Approval for a Barn Cat does not qualify you to adopt our social, companion cats. To adopt a house cat, complete the Cat Application on the Process, Forms, & Fees page.
